James Lorenzen Real Experience in the Real World

Jim began in sales.  As print advertising sales representative, Jim never sold a one-time ad!   All of his sales were campaigns of 13 consecutive weeks or longer.   His personal sales records include selling 22 campaigns in 22 working days - and getting deposit money at the point of sale each time!   He also sold 52 campaigns over a 29-week period, with over 80% of the campaigns sold on annual agreements, getting all cash in front at the point of sale five times!

Experience in Business – Creating Jobs and Meeting a Payroll

As an entrepreneur, Jim built an advertising agency, a direct mail company, a financial services firm, and five successful print publications of his own.

He soon developed a reputation for building high-performance organizations and practiced what he preached:  Jim's companies held training five mornings a week, all year round.   His success on getting his employees fully engaged lead to results his competition couldn't help but notice.   In fact,  Jim began his training and consulting career almost by accident in 1983 when accepting an offer – which was made in jest - to train the sales force of a competing publisher!   Imagine their shock when he not only accepted, but actually taught them how to sell against his own company!

Jim explained simply, "We're not your enemy and you're not ours!  If your people want to meet their enemy, they need only look in the mirror."  His In-Synch Selling soon became a standard throughout much of the publishing industry; and it wasn’t long before companies outside publishing began to adopt the system and apply it to their products and services.   You can read Jim's sales blog here!

By 1984, he'd sold his businesses.  Within a few years he was training management teams in other industries and expanded into organization development consulting into Canada and the U.K.  You can also read the Gardner Hathaway blog and subscribe to the management RSS feed.

Over the last 25 years, Jim has trained more than 10,000 salespeople and conducted both sales and management development programs for companies such as Hearst Corporation, Foster Grant, Hobie Cat, Dial One, Val-Pak, Cap-Cities ABC, and scores of others throughout the United States, Canada, and the U.K.  He's also been the featured speaker at hundreds of state, regional, national, and international conventions on management and sales topics.
